Landed in Hyderabad, the place i have been in love for sometime now. As i drove back home from Airport and while meeting some of my friends yesterday evening, I was just trying to gauge if the mood in the city has changed after the partition (The state was divided with Hyderabad to be part of Telengana). Well, the city seems not to worry about anything. Hardly anything changed in the city - Paradise Biryani remains the same, Necklace road remains the same, and Hi-Tech city is better today than it was before (seems like more client visits). Although i was one of those many who felt that the state should not be divided but looking at all these and foreseeing prospects for Hyderabad (once it was the only city in the world, where Microsoft had a Research center outside US), I feel the division was for a better Hyderabad.
Now it seems and even some of my friends here feel that Hyderabad will again be in the Indian Map drawing FDI. Analysts believe that Hyderabad could draw up to USD 1bn in FDI by end of this year, although i have my concerns with this statistics for I am not sure if the new government will give so much rope to Hyderabad considering they will have an agenda beyond developing Hyderabad. I am sure they would not want to do the same mistake that Chandrababu Naidu did a few years ago.
However what concerns me more is the composition of the new state of which Hyderabad is part of! The newly formed state (Telengana) has relatively very low GDP per capita, baring Hyderabad no other city or town in the state is developed or even very close to developing, most of the villages have barren land only fit for growing cotton, and groundnut. In addition lack of irrigation facilities and shortage of rainfall in the region further deteriorates the situation. I strongly feel that if Telengana has to develop, they will need to considering building a new airport somewhere in Nizamabad or Warangal. The road transportation is not as developed (infrastructure is a big problem) and Hyderabad still continues to be the nearest Airport. The railway network particularly connecting to Madhya Pradesh and Orrissa are equally inefficient. The Industrial world would want to have an airport accessible even if they see prospects of industrialization in the northern AP region. Warangal could be the location the state should consider besides Hyderabad for Warangal has prominent technical institutes and the standard of living is of a B-town. In addition, the distance between Hyderabad and Warangal is just 3 hours so a good reason to divert some real estate traffic away from Hyderabad. Be it whatever it may be, Hyderabad is one such place not many would hate for the place had defined what multi-culture means, and has given a new definition to the popular Biryani.
